Now up, Wandering Fortunes chapter 7: The Obsidian City

Chapter 7 of Wandering Fortunes is now up. The Obsidian City, New Zhopolis, finally appears! Big city! Tall buildings! Dim lights!  Innumerable residents! Numerable but still a pretty high number of species! Subways, districts, roads, vehicles, orators, scam artists, grumps, racism, and jerks, jerks, jerks!

Wait, somewhere along the line that took a turn for the worse. Will the big city turn out to be all that it promises to be? Or will it turn out to be more than that and it turned out we just didn’t hear its promises right the first time?

As always, I post these chapters early for $3+ patrons on Patreon, so this chapter has been available for a couple weeks now and patrons will be able to see more of Alden and his friends’ adventures in The Big City in just a couple weeks. Even if you give just one dollar though you still get to see things early, as I post weekly updates that include a snippet of work much further ahead. You can take a look at a bit of chapter ten already!

Wandering Fortunes chapter 6: Friends of a Feather, and the story cover!

Yes! We finally have the cover for Wandering Fortunes, and it looks amazing! First, the new chapter can be read here. And for the cover…

Drawn by my talented friend Daimyo-Koikoi, we have our protagonists here, plus a couple shadows… And, of course, Top is being mischievous.

I can finally replace that drawing of Top I’d been using as a placeholder. Also as a reminder, my Patreon has chapters go up early for patrons. Chapter 7 will go up in mid-June. They even got to see the cover early!

Wandering Fortunes update Chapter 5: Wonder of Fortune

Wonderful! The fifth chapter of Wandering Fortunes is here, and it introduces our third main character, Ropak! It is he who sets off the story’s main events, and it is he who introduces us to the story’s second species, the wrallot. I’m excited to finally get Ropak into the open so we now have our three main characters for Wondering Fortunes. Let the good times roll! For us, anyway. For our characters, ehhh…

Don’t forget that patrons of $3+ get to read chapters early. Chapter 6 will be available for them in mid-May!

I also should have some Darmenzi news soon. For reals this time!

I’m also working one everything oh gourd I’m so busy what if I just play video games for several hours instead

Wandering Fortunes Chapter 3: Homed Out, now available

Now available on DVD and Blu-Ray

Wandering Fortunes Chapter 3 is up, wherein Top quits and then retires to a good home on a farm upstate. There’s also some politics with the Micagox. But obviously as always the highlight is Top’s spouting nonsense. They request maternity leave at one point?

As always my Patreon is Patreonning, or whatever, with previews and peeks and what I’m working on now and early chapters. Chapter 4 will be there in just a couple weeks. Top becomes a housewife! (They don’t become a housewife.)

Character Profile for Alden

The character profile for Alden is now available to read. He’s basically the protagonist of Wandering Fortunes, being the focus character in pretty much twice as many chapters as the other main characters. He’s also a bookworm. Yaaay. This means is is guaranteed relatable because you are also reading at the same time. This is how relatability works right. Relatable and other related words are actual words right.

In other CCC news, I’ve spent the last week working hard on Darmenzi and I’m only 60% through editing from the editor’s notes. Still I should finish in a few days and then spend a week reading through it for a final scan and if things go according to plan this book will be released in April or May so the Nottle Crystal series is almost complete in final book form yaaay! FINALLY, THE THINGS THAT HAPPENED IN THE CHAPTERS I POSTED OVER THE LAST COUPLE YEARS WILL HAPPEN FOR REAL. For a certain definition of “real”.

Also, don’t forget my Patreon, where $3+ patrons this very day get to read chapter 3 of Wandering Fortunes. Everyone else has to wait a couple more weeks.

Finally, I have CCCalling cards now. This is not really something of interest for the internet but LOOK AT THEM

Chapter 2 of Wandering Fortunes is now up

Chapter 2: No Stranger Stranger is available to read now. In it we get to meet the next main character of Wandering Fortunes, Alden, and then, later, Top sings. Between that I would say it’s a good chapter.

Don’t forget, those who give to the CCC Patreon have the chance to read these chapters half a month early. Chapter 3 in just a couple weeks. And a reminder, all money from the CCC this month goes to charity to help keep the country from drowning, and that includes from Patreon.

And no, still no cover. It’s being worked on.

Wandering Fortunes is here! Chapter 1: Guardian of Goofiness

Wandering Fortunes Intro
Chapter 1: Guardian of Goofiness

The first chapter of the Wandering Fortunes is finally here, in the year of 2017! After a brief introduction by Duth and Wally, we get in the head of someone in the process of being created. This someone is Top. Top is crazy. Top for best character 2017. Unfortunately, those what created Top don’t think so.

I first started writing Slubes at the beginning of 2010. Seven years later the first new setting and group of characters of the Cloudy Cuckoo Cosmos since the beginning starts. I hope you enjoy Wandering Fortunes enough to make the next 3 1/2 years feel like just 2. (Which could totally be done if I reached the Patreon goal where I began to post 2 chapters a month.)

The cover for Wandering Fortunes is, well, not done yet. But it’s close! The artist is working on it, and it should be completed before the second chapter in February.

As for 2016, it was a weird year. A lot of people thought it was terrible. I’m not sure it was any worse than previous years aside from the election, which was kind of worse than past elections. But I actually had a surprisingly good year, with Slubes finally refinished and lots of work on Darmenzi done, along with the prog version being fully posted online. I also started a weird Pokemon comic because I have no time for real work.

Now we have 2017. I hope to finish Darmenzi and release the final version, and I hope to get more work done on Wandering Fortunes. I’m sure you’ll all love it. Have fun with Top’s oddball antics!

Cloudy Cuckoo Cosmos coming to Medium

Along with this website and Wattpad, the Cloudy Cuckoo Cosmos chapters will be posted on Medium in 2017. Here’s the introduction.

Medium is basically a place to post all manner of writings. I don’t really know how to explain it better than that.

Wandering Fortunes coming January 1st! Patreon patrons can read chapter 1 already.

The conclusion of Darmenzi! Chapter 20: Fallen Oblivion

It’s finally here. We’re finally here. The final chapter of Darmenzi, Chapter 20: Fallen Oblivion is here! It all concludes with a bang, a smash, and a reveal. Will everyone survive? Will everyone live? Will I let this stand??

The conclusion ends with a brief discussion on the next book, Wandering Fortunes. More on that when I have time. For now, enjoy the conclusion to this story running for 1 2/3 years, the second (and first real) story I wrote for NaNoWriMo, which… begins today. Coincidence? Yes. I’m too busy to do anything for it, though.

Author Highlight: Graham Milne

Oh shoot I went out for a walk around the lake today and almost forgot about this, okay, okay, who’s next? This guy! Graham Milne, a guy who took his given name and made it into a pun for his weblogsite. Good for him! He is opinions and apparently Canadian. I don’t think I noticed that before, or more likely just glossed over it.

What has he done? According to his about me page, he’s written a novel, is working on a sequel, and has ideas for more, and is currently working on getting the first one published. But what actually puts him in a situation where I’m talking about and highlighting and throwing cabbages at him is that there is a full serial story that he wrote: Vintage: A Fantasy Serial. It’s also a pretty fancy serial. It is free to read, which means I read it, liked it, finished reading it, and am now going to talk about it a bit. Because it turns out free stuff captures my attention. It’s what I’m doing, after all. Although I think “free stuff captures my attention” can be applied to 90% of the human race.

Aside from his website, it’s also available on Wattpad. Though Graham I came across simply by wondering around the internet. There happens to be one chapter only on Wattpad though because it is rated euphemism! Taking place in the same world as the novels he’s working n, it follows a French-inspired country trying to cut off magic, and particularly the power of witches, which a government organization sees as a threat to their power. A high-ranked officer whose job is to root out these witches gets to know one and questions his choices, though, and, hey, wait, I didn’t summarize or describe the story in the last highlight.

It’s actually been like half a year since I read Vintage, so let me try to recall my thoughts on it. The story felt like it evolved naturally and nothing felt out of place. This is the case even when some characters returned without that originally planned. (Later on Graham had some reflections and mentioned how the story originally was meant to be only 4 or 5 parts long, and thus he hadn’t made an outline–instead he developed each part as he wrote and, because he posted them as he wrote, he couldn’t go back to tweak things and had to move forward.)

The characters work well together, even–or perhaps especially–the fellow with never more than two words to say. Perhaps the setting could be expanded some more, but with this being in a world that other stories are being written in, I can see that being easy enough.

There’s also French words. Last time I talked about a book with fabricated words and a glossary, now I’m discussing one with real words that nevertheless are French and therefore I have even less of a clue about them. So, um… snails? Yeah, I didn’t really research this part.

I’m looking forward to when he gets his books published, whenever that is, but for now he has Vintage up for free, and, in the end, that might actually be the most important criteria for me having a highlight post about someone! No, wait, awesome story is most important. Free helps, though. It means I have something immediate to point readers to. Anyway, next time I run out of people. Wait, maybe not quite yet…
